Is it possible to have a sandwich panel with a plain surface?
Manufacturing of sandwich panel with plain surface is not a problem from manufacturing point of view, however flat does not mean the same to everybody and also it differs in specific environment. There are flatness tolerances required in sandwich panels industry: L = 0,6 / 1,0 / 1,5mm for respectively 200 / 400 / >700mm of panels length.
To have a satisfactory level of flatness, standard thickness of the metal facing 0,5mm is insufficient. Decent thickness should be 0,7 – 0,8mm. Of course, these steel coils are much more expensive.
But manufacturing is just one point of view. On the other hand panels are products with a long life span, so even if the panel leaves factory completely flat, on the building it will be a subject to various forces e.g. load bearing, wind and pressure (in and out), temperatures. Did you know, that sandwich panel must struggle with day/night temperature cycles with even 80 C of daily difference?
All of the forces could possibly cause deformation of the surface, as a result a panel could loose its initial flatness.
Sandwich panels by EuroPanels are building construction materials and should be treated accordingly.
